Kitted out with the best gear a home on wheels could ask for

When the legends at Dometic caught wind of our plans to reclaim and convert the bus, there was never going to be any hesitation. A blank canvas, stripped down, repaired, built back up using reclaimed materials and a simple brief: Make it as self sufficient as it can possibly be.

A few months later and we've got a roof stacked with the most efficient solar panels, plus all the best-in-class comforts you could ask for inside.

“The aim from the outset was to set the bus up to be totally self-sufficient with solar energy to run everything onboard”

~ Alan Diamond, Outdoor EMEA, Dometic

Off-Grid Ready

There are four 230w solar panels fitted, this will give Little Firs up to 920w of solar power at the panels’ peak performance.

The panels should be able to charge the batteries in less than three hours. We have a smart charger fitted that will monitor the solar input against the engine charging, and adapt to take more power from the solar panels when it can.

So, if the batteries are low after an event and we're driving, instead of adding load to the alternator and engine, the smart charger will adjust and take more from the solar panels, meaning a reduction in fuel usage and emissions.

Battery Afterlife

All the batteries onboard are covered by Dometic for responsible disposal at the end of their lives, so we know they’re in safe hands.

“This fridge is better than the one in my house” ~ Liv, Events Manager

There are two compressor fridges on board, which are the leading technology for lower energy consumption. The induction hob is designed to work without overstraining the bus’ electrics or mains power, working off the solar and battery set up wherever possible.
